Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli have led India’s charge in the first test of the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 that is being played at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

Bowling after India’s poor batting performance on day 1, Bumrah led his team from the front, taking the 11th five-wicket haul of his test cricket, whereas Virat Kohli redeemed his first innings failure with an excellent century in the second innings to guide India to a commanding position.

India started the day 4 on top, with a massive target of 534 runs to defend and Australia scrapping at 12/3. The morning did not start well for the hosts as they slipped further to 79/5.

The Aussie fightback came from Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh who added 82 runs for the sixth wicket. The left-hander played the role of aggressor, notching up 89 runs off just 101 balls.

Relief for India came in the 39th over of the innings, when Jasprit Bumrah, in his comeback spell, dismissed Travis Head for a well-made 89.

Bowling around the wicket, Bumrah set up Travis Head brilliantly. After a sharp short-pitched delivery, he followed it up with a good-length ball outside the off stump. Caught off guard by the previous delivery, Head showed minimal foot movement and attempted a backfoot punch, only to edge it straight into Rishabh Pant’s gloves.
