Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25
Jasprit Bumrah breaks his silence on verbal war with Sam Konstas during BGT 2024-25

Jasprit Bumrah finished as the leading wicket-taker of the BGT 2024-25 with 32 wickets.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 was one of the most memorable test series in recent years. After losing the first game in Perth, the hosts Australia made an emphatic comeback to win the series 3-1 and regain the trophy after 10 years.
Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer for India in the series and finished as the leading wicket-taker with 32 wickets at an average of 14. He also became the first bowler to complete 200 test wickets at an average of less than 19 during the series.
One of the most memorable moments of the series came in the fifth and final test in Sydney, where Australia youngster Sam Konstas and Bumrah were involved in sledging. The Indian speedster dismissed Usman Khawaja on the next ball and then celebrated in Konstas’ face.
Notably, Konstas had taken the attack to Bumrah in his debut match in Melbourne. The 19-year-old shocked the world by smashing 18 runs off Bumrah’s over.
Jasprit Bumrah breaks his silence on verbal war with Sam Konstas during BGT 2024-25:
Speaking to The Indian Express, Bumrah clarified that the media may have interpreted it differently, but he did not say anything serious to Konstas.
Bumrah said, “I don’t know what you guys are thinking but I mainly asked him, ‘Is everything okay?’ Is your mother fine, is everything at home fine?“
“He said ‘Yes, it’s fine?’ to which I said ‘Now, I will bowl’. You guys must have interpreted it as something else. I think the lack of words may have caused some miscommunication). Incidents like these happen when the game is close,“
Bumrah is currently nursing a back injury and is not part of the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Indian management will closely monitor his fitness with the five-match test series in England scheduled for June.
