Jasprit Bumrah was named in the Indian squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka.

The Indian Cricket Team are all set to tour Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series. The series, which will be part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 will begin on 15th August.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently named the Indian squad for the series. But one of the things that caught many people’s attention was Jasprit Bumrah’s availability. The pacer was named in the squad, but his participation was subject to fitness.

Jasprit Bumrah got injured in the second ODI against England. He felt some discomfort in his left knee and then was ruled out of the third ODI of the series. But at that time, it was reported that his injury wasn’t serious and he would be fit for the Sri Lanka series.

However, things have now taken a drastic turn as Bumrah has been ruled out of the SL vs IND Test series. The development was confirmed by the Times of India on Sunday, August 2.

The reports confirmed that Bumrah is still feeling discomfort in his left knee and this comes after he had an initial assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). This made the stakeholders decide that it’s not safe to push him back into cricket and advised a full recovery.

A source close to the developments confirmed that BCCI wants Bumrah to recover quickly as there are important assignments lined up. Speaking to TOI, he said:

“There have been instances in the past where players have been rushed back to cricket, and have broken down. You can’t take that risk again. Especially with Bumrah. So complete recovery is the only goal and there is a lot of cricket left in the year. There is the Asian Games, the tour of New Zealand and even the Border-Gavaskar Trophy early next year.”

The BCCI is expected to make the news official soon and announce the replacement soon. One option could be Auqib Nabi, who was star with the ball in the last season of the Ranji Trophy.
