Jasprit Bumrah is one player we missed a lot: India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey
India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey opened up about the workload management of bowlers and how India are missing Jasprit Bumrah.
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has missed a lot of games in recent times due to injury and rehab. Bumrah has been India's lead pacer for a long time before his injury, and missing a lead bowler has been a concern in terms of workload management for the team.
Mhambrey, while speaking after the first Test, acknowledged that Jasprit Bumrah's presence could have eased out the jam-packed schedule for the bowlers. “If we look at the last 1-1.5 years Bumrah is one player we missed a lot," he said.
Speaking about how the breaks for the bowlers work, Mhambrey said there is no talk about giving a break to the individual, but in the future, India would do it to create bench strength.
“As of now, there haven’t been any discussions on who will play white ball and who will play red ball but going forward we have to give breaks to individual bowlers. The moment we give a break to a bowler we can bring another one which will create bench strength,” he said.
Mhambrey also insisted on the importance of Workload management as India plays more games in the upcoming months.
“Workload management is one of the important things we have been working on it for the last couple of years obviously we have missed Bumrah and Prasidh who have been part of the set-up," he said.
He also spoke about working with different bowlers and praised Mukesh Kumar's consistency in Ranji Trophy for the past two years. “A lot of other bowlers like Mukesh who have done well in Ranji cricket and bowlers who have been also part of the team like Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh there will be an opportunity to work with them,” he added.
Mukesh Kumar is an interesting talent: Paras Mhambrey
Mukesh Kumar has been one of the leading wicket-takers in the Ranji Trophy in the past couple of seasons. He has grabbed 123 wickets in his 33 appearances and has been a part of India team reserves recently.
“Mukesh Kumar is a very interesting talent one thing is he is coming on the back of a lot of hard work and performance. He knows the value of himself. We have been following his performance for the last couple of years and how he has been performing in the Ranji Trophy,” the 51-year-old said.
He also added that since top bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah are away, this is his opportunity to work with youngsters and create bench strength. “This is my opportunity to work with him and create bench strength", he added.
India defeated West Indies in the first Test at Dominica to go 1-0 up in the series. R Ashwin was the star performer with the ball. The all-rounder grabbed five wickets in the first innings and ended with seven wickets in the second.
