BCCI secretary Jay Shah has acknowledged the hard work and toil of the groundsmen and pitch curators at the IPL 2024 venues.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has announced a whopping INR 25 lakhs award for the groundsmen and pitch curators of each of the 10 regular venues used in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

The IPL 2024 season came to an end on Sunday night in Chennai with Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clinching their third IPL trophy by defeating Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final. Led by Mitchell Starc, KKR’s bowlers ran the show in the final as they restricted SRH to only 113. Then, through Venkatesh Iyer’s blistering half-century, KKR gunned down the target in only 10.3 overs and sealed the IPL title.

On Monday morning, Shah announced a handsome reward for the groundsmen and the pitch curators at the 10 regular venues plus the three additional venues used in the tournament. Apart from the 10 marquee venues, Guwahati, Vizag, and Dharamsala also hosted matches this season.

The BCCI secretary acknowledged the hard work and efforts of the ground staff and pitch curators in delivering top-level pitches and facilities in the stadiums throughout the long tournament. Shah hailed them as the “unsung heroes” of the cash-rich league.

Jay Shah tweeted, “The unsung heroes of our successful T20 season are the incredible ground staff who worked tirelessly to provide brilliant pitches, even in difficult weather conditions. As a token of our appreciation, the groundsmen and curators at the 10 regular IPL venues will receive INR 25 lakhs each, and the same at the 3 additional venues will get INR 10 lakhs each. Thank you for your dedication and hard work!”
