BCCI secretary Jay Shah quashed rumours of the board organizing T20 league for retired cricketers.

In a latest development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has quashed all rumors of BCCI organizing an Indian Premier League (IPL)-like tournament for retired cricketers in the near future.

Recently, a report in Dainik Jagran claimed that some former Indian cricketers, who have played in various T20 leagues around the globe, met BCCI secretary Jay Shah and asked the board to organize an IPL-like tournament for retired cricketers in India.

The report also claimed that the board hasn’t taken any final decision on the topic. “We have received a proposal from former cricketers in this regard. We are mulling over it,” claimed Dainik Jagran quoting a BCCI source.

Jay Shah quashes rumours of BCCI organizing IPL-like tournament

Reacting to all the rumours and speculations, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that the BCCI is not in a mood of hosting an IPL-like tournament for retired cricketers.

“It’s fake news. No proposal has been discussed about that. No one has told me about it. However, I do not know what I will do about it if such a proposal comes,” Shah said to TOI.

Recently, the World Championship of Legends (WCL) was played at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The tournament gained massive success among the cricket lovers.

The Yuvraj Singh-led India won the inaugural edition of the WCL. They defeated the Younis Khan-led Pakistan in the grand finale of the showpiece event.

In recent years, many former players have taken part in several tournaments like the Road Safety World Series, WCL, and Global Legends League. However, all of them are hosted by the private bodies, not by any governing cricket bodies.

But all the respective tournaments gained popularity among cricket fans.
