Ishan Kishan got out on a 3-ball duck against GT in his first match of the IPL 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah was seen having a friendly conversation with Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Ishan Kishan after their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 24.

The conversation between the BCCI secretary and Kishan comes amidst a recent rift between Kishan and the BCCI. Earlier, Kishan opted to stay away from the Ranji Trophy despite being instructed to play, raising concerns about his commitment to domestic cricket.

Jay Shah had previously issued a strong statement emphasizing the importance of domestic participation for national selection. BCCI then removed Indian wicket-keeper batter from the central contracts list for 2023–24.

What happened in fifth match of the IPL 2024 between GT and MI?

Five-time champions MI maintained the tradition of losing their opening match of the tournament since 2013, with Titans snatching an close six-run victory in a thrilling evening match on Sunday.

In the first innings, MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled a couple of terrific spells to restrict GT to 168 for 6 in 20 overs, while MI lost their way in the chase after Rohit Sharma’s dismissal to end up on 162 for 9 in 20 overs.

After winning the match, GT new skipper Shubman Gill said that they just wanted to build pressure and wait for MI to make mistakes. Gill also credited his spinners and added that they made sure that Titans are always in the game against five-time champions MI.

“The way the boys held their nerves with dew coming in, it was outstanding. The way our spinners bowled made sure we are always in the game. It’s all about holding your nerves. He (Sai Sudharsan) has been a revelation for us,” Shubman Gill said during post match presentation.

“We just wanted to build on the pressure and wait for them to make mistakes. The crowd is one thing, have always come whether it is a day game or a night game and shout out to all the fans who have come here to support us. I thought that was a good score, but we definitely left at least 15 runs there, it was hard to hit those short balls as the wicket got a bit slow towards the end,” Gill added.
