The Indian Women’s Cricket Team is set for a new challenge as they will be playing back-to-back tournaments featuring Asian teams. The Women’s Asia Cup will start on August 28, with India’s first match being against Thailand on August 30. They will next take on Hong Kong and Pakistan in their group fixtures. All these matches will be played in Dubai.

After the Asia Cup, they will play in the Asian Games in late September, looking to earn a gold medal for their country. India won gold at the Asian Games in both the men’s and women’s events at the 2022 Asian Games, and they will be looking to recreate that performance.

However, the team’s key player, Jemimah Rodrigues, who played a major role in the success of the Indian team that lifted the Women’s Cricket World Cup last year in India, is now ruled out of both these events, giving a major blow to the team’s chances.

Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the Indian squad for the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup and the Asian Games due to an injury. She suffered a high-grade right hamstring tear, the BCCI announced on Friday. She sustained the injury while playing for her team, Southern Brave, in The Women’s Hundred 2026 on August 3.

She later underwent an assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, which confirmed that she will miss some key tournaments.

Jemimah Rodrigues sustained a right hamstring injury on 3rd August while playing in The Hundred in England. The BCCI Medical Team clinically assessed her at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, and the assessment confirmed a high-grade tear. Consequently, she has been ruled out of the upcoming ACC Women’s Asia Cup in the UAE and the Asian Games in Japan,” a BCCI press release said.

In Jemimah’s place, Pratika Rawal has been selected to represent the Indian team at the Asia Cup and the Asian Games. Rawal hasn’t played any T20I games yet, but she has featured in one Test and 27 ODI matches for India. The Indian fans would like Pratika to step up and not let them feel the absence of Jemimah in the upcoming months.
