ENG vs IND: Joe Root overtakes Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis to become 3rd highest run-scorer in test cricket

Joe Root is now the third highest run-scorer in test cricket after Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting.
The fourth test of the five-match series for Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 between England Cricket Team and Indian Cricket Team is currently underway at Old Trafford, Manchester. During the encounter, England batter Joe Root achieved a massive feat as he became the third highest run-scorer in the longest format of the game.
Root has overtaken former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid and former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis to become the third highest run-scorer in test cricket. Dravid piled up 13,288 runs in 164 tests during his career.
Kallis mustered 13,289 runs in 166 tests during his career. Now, Root follows master blaster Sachin Tendulkar (15,921) and Ricky Ponting (13,378) in the list of most runs in test cricket. Root might even overtake Ponting by end of today’s innings.

Joe Root slammed a century in the Lord’s test

Notably, Root scored a century in third test of the series at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. So far, he has scored one century and two half-centuries in the ongoing series. He holds the top spot in ICC rankings for test batters.
Talking about the Manchester test, India piled up 358/10 in the first innings with fifties by Yashasvi Jaiswal (58), Sai Sudharsan (61), and Rishabh Pant (54).For the hosts, skipper Ben Stokes clinched a five-wicket haul.
The hosts made a wonderful start to their innings with their openers Zak Crawley (84) and Ben Duckett (94) etching an opening stand of 166 runs. In the first session on day three, England crossed 300 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of two wickets. Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bowl first in the encounter.
