Joe Root overtakes Eoin Morgan to become England's leading run-scorer in ODI cricket

Joe Root achieved the feat during second ODI between England and the West Indies.
England Cricket Team are clashing with West Indies Cricket Team in second ODI of the ongoing three-match ODI series on Sunday, June 1. The clash is taking place at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. During the match, Joe Root became the leading run-scorer in ODIs for the Three Lions.
England skipper Harry Brook won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. The West Indies were bowled out for 308 in the first innings. Opener Brandon King slammed 59 runs while skipper Shai Hope scored 78 runs.
Keacy Carty, who batted at three, slammed a stupendous century (103) to power the team to a gigantic total. During the chase, the home team lost both of their openers, Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett, for ducks. However, Joe Root, who came in at three, came up with a crucial half-century in the encounter to bring the hosts back into the game.

With his amazing knock, Root has overtaken Eoin Morgan as the leading run-scorer for the England Cricket Team in ODIs. The former England skipper slammed 6957 runs in 207 innings in his career. He played 225 ODIs for the team from 2009 to 2022.
Root has played 179 ODIs for the national team so far. Notably, he is also the only player other than Morgan to score more than 6000 runs in ODIs for England. So far, only five England batters have crossed 5000-run mark in ODI cricket. Recently, Root also became the first ever English batter to cross 13000 runs in test cricket.

Meanwhile, England aim for a series victory against the Caribbean side in the ongoing second ODI. They lead the series 1-0. Harry Brook & Co. won the opening game by a huge margin of 238 runs. They piled up a mammoth 400/8 in the first innings and then bowled out the opposition for 162. The third and final ODI of the series will be played on June 3 at the Kennington Oval in London.
