Joe Root hit a magnificent ton in the last game at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. He has made sure that he carries on the same form in the fourth test of the series, which is underway at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. 

Joe Root has looked in glorious touch and has slammed a magnificent half-century, putting the visitors under massive pressure. Not only this, he also became the third-highest run-getter in the longest format of the game.

Joe Root surpassed Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid to seal the third spot. The England batter now only has Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar ahead in the list and with the way he is going, it won’t be a surprise if he goes past both the batting greats in the list. 

As he eyes Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most runs in test cricket, his old tweet went viral. The England batter posted the tweet on Tendulkar’s retirement, highlighting how the batter played in his test debut. 

He said: “Sachin made his debut for India before I was born. Then played in my test debut.” 

Joe Root also overtook Ricky Ponting in the list of batters with most fifty-plus scores in the longest format of the game. The right-hander now has 104 fifty-plus scores and is second to Sachin Tendulkar, who hit 119 fifty-plus scores in the longest format of the game. 

In the ongoing series, Root has hit over 300 runs. The premier batter has slammed two fifties and one ton as well. With the way he is batting in the ongoing game, he looks all set for another ton in the series.
