Jofra Archer made his test cricket return during the Lord’s test.
After a prolonged injury layoff, Jofra Archer made a spectacular comeback to test cricket. In the thrilling third test match between India and England at the Lord’s, where the home team prevailed by 22 runs, Archer made a triumphant return.
Early in both innings, Archer had an immediate impact by dismissing opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Archer also claimed the vital wickets of Sundar and Rishabh Pant in the second.
After India lost four wickets on day 4, they were looking to Pant, who had recently joined KL Rahul as the new batsman, to save them. Archer’s dismissal of Pant was a game-changer on day 5.
Day 4 saw India finish at 58/4, with Rahul remaining undefeated. On day 5, Pant became Rahul’s replacement as a hitter during the opening session; however, he only faced 12 balls and scored nine runs.
“It wasn’t a proud moment”- Jofra Archer on sledging Rishabh Pant
The ball hit the top of the off stump after passing Pant’s outside edge after Archer’s length delivery. England made their first breakthrough early on and didn’t look back after Pant’s wicket.
Archer uttered a few words and gave the wicket-keeper batter a particular farewell when he removed Pant.
“It wasn’t a proud moment. I just told him to ‘charge that’. Honestly, this morning, I was struggling a little bit; the ball just kept coming out full. One of the full ones, he just charged, and it pissed me off a bit. When the [wicket] ball nipped down the slope, honestly, I was so grateful for that,” Archer told Sky Cricket.
On his return, he said, “Hectic one for first back. Bowled a few more overs than I thought I would. Only played one Test at Lord’s, and the last one was just as special as this one. It’s been a long time coming, but moments like this make it worth it. You never know if you’re ready until you’re ready.”
Manchester’s Old Trafford will host the fourth test, which is set to start on July 23. India, 1-2 behind in the series, will try to tie the series and provide an exciting finish.
