Jonty Rhodes missed out on becoming India fielding coach back in 2019.

Legendary South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes is all set to become the new fielding coach of the Indian men’s senior cricket team, according to reports. Rhodes was the fielding coach of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

In 2019, Rhodes applied for the fielding coach position, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to stick with R. Sridhar back then. The support staff was picked by then-Men in Blue head coach Ravi Shastri and he decided to go with Sridhar as the fielding coach of the team.

Last month, the BCCI invited applications for the post of head coach for the Indian cricket team. The deadline for applying for the position was May 27.

Currently, legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid is the head coach of the Indian side, but Dravid has confirmed that he will step down as the head coach after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

According to a latest report in RevSportz, one of the greatest fielders Rohdes is yet to be approached by the BCCI, but he is in contention to become the new fielding coach of the Indian side.

The report further added that a new coaching staff is set to take over once Dravid’s second stint as head coach is over after the end of the T20 World Cup 2024 in June.
