"Was inspired by MS Dhoni": Jonty Rhodes explains why he helped ground staff at Ekana stadium
Jonty Rhodes remembers one of the famous saying on him which was started by 90's cricket fans.
Apart from the rain, Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings clash gave an interesting viral video from the action. Lucknow were almost at the end of their inning when rain arrived and umpires asked ground staff to bring covers on the wicket. Lucknow’s fielding coach Jonty Rhodes came out rushing from the field to help the ground staff in putting covers on the wicket. The video became viral and fans are praising Jonty Rhodes' down to earth attitude. The game ended without any results sharing points among Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings.
Jonty says he was inspired by MS Dhoni
Former South African batter and currently working as fielding coach of Lucknow, Jonty Rhodes reacted to one of the fan's tweets praising him for his down-to-earth gesture. Replying to a fan he tweeted, “I was actually inspired by MS Dhoni and the way handled the incredible support he was shown at Ekana Stadium. Not just a legend, but a great man too”. Rhodes has got immense love from India, he also named his daughter India. Jonty Rhodes in his playing days was known for his great fielding efforts.
'Water covers 70% of the earth, rest is covered by Jonty'
Several 90’s fans remember Jonty Rhodes as one of the best athletes to have played the game of cricket. One of the sayings was popular about Jonty Rhodes, which he again used to reply to Lucknow Super Giants tweet. Replying to his team’s tweet, he tweeted, “Just trying to live up to my supporters signs from the 90’s which claimed that ‘water covers 70% of the earth and the rest is covered by Jonty”. Jonty getting Inzamam ul Haq runout in the 92 world cup is still fresh in everyone’s memory.
Lucknow Super Giants had to stop their inning after 19.2 overs when the rain got heavier and no game was possible after that. Chennai’s spinners were having a great day at Ekana. Jadeja bowled a magical delivery to get Lucknow’s big man Marcus Stoinis. Ayush Badoni (59) fifty helped Lucknow go past 120 runs mark against Chennai Super Kings. There was no action possible after that and both teams had to share 1-1 points.
