Jos Buttler’s 38-ball 83 helped England thrash USA by 10 wickets and qualify for the semi-finals.

Jos Buttler was on song as he powered England to a 10-wicket win against the USA in their Super 8s stage match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The match was played in Bridgetown, Barbados on June 23, 2024.

Chasing a small total of 116, Jos Buttler wreaked havoc on USA bowlers as England achieved the target in just 9.4 overs. Phil Salt remained unbeaten on 25 in 21 balls, while Buttler made 83* in 38 balls with seven sixes and six fours to his name.

He was particularly severe of spinner Harmeet Singh as Buttler smacked him for five sixes in an over, four sixes were hit in four consecutive balls and the fifth came after a wide interrupted the sequence.

Earlier, the USA were asked to bat first by Jos Buttler. The United States battled against England bowlers on a sluggish ground at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. Nitish Kumar (30) and Corey Anderson (29) were the top scorers as the USA crumbled for 115 runs.

Adil Rashid bowled 2/13 in the middle overs, while Sam Curran took two wickets. The standout bowler for England was Chris Jordan. Jordan, who is from Barbados and played cricket here, took 4/10 in 2.5 overs. And he took four wickets in one over, including a hat-trick.

Jordan became the first England bowler to record a T20 World Cup hat-trick.

During his carnage with the bat, Jos Buttler not only caused severe damage to the USA bowlers’ egos, but also to the roofs of the Barbados stadium.

Showing no mercy to Saurabh Netravalkar, who has been the most impressive USA bowler in the tournament, Buttler danced down the wicket against the pacer and smacked his delivery straight over his head for a 104-m mammoth hit.

The ball went on the roof of the stadium and the impact damaged a solar panel, which was placed on the roof for electricity generation.
