Jos Buttler finished the group stages of IPL 2023 with 392 runs in 14 matches.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Jos Buttler has had a disappointing IPL 2023 with the bat as he achieved an unwanted record of most ducks in a single Indian Premier League season to his name.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) locked horns in their last league match in the ongoing 16th edition of IPL 2023 on May 19, 2023, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.

RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and put PBKS into bat in their final IPL league match. In an unfortunate turn of events, star off-spinner R Ashwin was forced to miss out on the game due to a back spasm.

Trent Boult, Navdeep Saini, and Riyan Parag were included. However, these modifications also meant that several players, including Ashwin, Joe Root, and Dhruv Jurel, were not included in this particular match.

Prabhsimran Singh (9), Shikhar Dhawan (17) and Atharva Taide (19) fell early, but Jitesh Sharma (44), Sam Curran (49*) and Shahrukh Khan (41*) propelled Punjab Kings to 187/5.

Jos Buttler registers his record 5th duck in this IPL 2023 season

RR opened with Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Buttler was under pressure as he as coming off two successive ducks in RR’s last two matches. Much was expected by the England captain, but it was not to be for the right-hander.

Jos Buttler was out LBW to South African paceman Kagiso Rabada in the second over of their 188-run chase at the HPCA Stadium. Buttler missed a straight delivery from Rabada as his lack of footwork revealed his lack of form. Buttler was utterly out of shape as Rabada's delivery jagged back in sharply.

Jos Buttler did not even wait to look at his non-striker, Yashasvi Jaiswal, for a review as he was walked back in the 2nd over.

It has been a dramatic season for Jos Buttler as he was 5 runs away from equalling Chris Gayle's all-time record of most IPL hundreds before he got out for 95 against SunRisers Hyderabad on May 7. Ever since, he has managed 3 ducks - 0 vs Kolkata Knight Riders on May 11 and 0 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 14.
