England Cricket Team star Jos Buttler recently etched his name into the record books by becoming the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket. The wicketkeeper-batter achieved the milestone during ongoing The Hundred 2026, adding another landmark to an already decorated career across international and franchise cricket.
Reaching the top of the all-time T20 run charts requires consistency over several years across different leagues and international competitions. While many established batters continue to climb the list, several young cricketers have also begun attracting attention for their performances in the shortest format.

During an interaction on Sky Sports, Jos Buttler was asked which player he believes could one day surpass his record as the leading run-scorer in men’s T20 cricket. The England star named Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, backing the young Indian to eventually achieve the milestone.
“You’ve got the most T20 runs out of anyone, but one day someone will break that record and his name is probably Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.”
The comment came shortly after Buttler created history by overtaking Kieron Pollard to become the leading run-scorer in men’s T20 cricket. The milestone came during Manchester Super Giants’ match against Welsh Fire in The Hundred, where Buttler scored an unbeaten 51 off 20 balls, hitting two fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 255.00.
With that knock, Buttler’s total runs reached 14,833 in 522 T20 matches, which includes nine centuries and 106 half-centuries. Buttler moved ahead of Pollard’s total of 14,803 runs in 746 T20 matches, while Gayle stands third with a tally of 14,562 runs in 463 matches with 22 centuries and as many as 88 half-centuries.
Though still early in his career, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s performance has impressed many. Whether the Indian surpasses Buttler or not would depend on how well he maintains his performance in the long run.
