[Watch] Josh Hazlewood signs autograph for a fan on sandpaper during 2nd NZ vs AUS test

Right-arm pacer Josh Hazlewood picked up five wickets in the first innings of the Christchurch test.

Australia’s right-arm pacer Josh Hazlewood had a terrific outing against New Zealand in the second Trans-Tasman Trophy test at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Hazlewood picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the second test and registered bowling figures of 5/31 in 13 overs. Hazlewood’s spell rattled the Blackcaps’ batting line-up and bundled out the hosts for just 162 runs.

Christchurch test is currently evenly poised as New Zealand have picked up four wickets in the fourth innings. Australia require 279 runs to whitewash New Zealand and win the Trans-Tasman Trophy. During the game, Aussie fast bowler Josh Hazlewood was approached by few fans and asked to sign yellow sandpapers on the sidelines of Hagley Oval.

Josh Hazlewood was placed at the boundary line and few of the fans approached him with bats and belongings to take his autograph. Meanwhile, one fan emerged from the crowd and gave a yellow sandpaper to Hazlewood while the crowd shared a great laugh about it. Hazlewood accepted fan’s request and signed the sandpaper.

This is the second incident where Josh Hazlewood asked to sign a ‘sandpaper.’ He signed Barmy Army’s poster of him in action. Later, Barmy Army added a note in the poster saying, ‘I Joshua ‘Joshie’ Hazlewood do solemnly swear that I knew it was sandpaper.’ This happened in Ashes 2021. Fans cheered Hazlewood on both occasion for being a good sport.

In 2018, A major controversy broke in Australian cricket where Cameron Bancroft was spotted using sandpaper to shine the ball. This was deemed as ball tampering and Australian skipper Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner accepted their involvement and they were banned from the game for a brief period of time.
