Australia picked Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins in the T20 World Cup 2026 squad despite injury concerns.
The Australian squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 was announced recently. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood both featured in the team despite battling injuries, which forced them to miss the ongoing Ashes 2025-26.
Pat Cummins is recovering from a back injury and played just one Ashes 2025-26 Test, which was the third of the series. Josh Hazlewood, on the other hand, is recovering from hamstring and Achilles injuries and was rules out of the entire Ashes series.
Australian Chief Selector George Bailey, in a statement, said that the pacers are “tracking well” from their respective injury concerns and sounded confident about their availability in the tournament.
“Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David are tracking well and we are confident they will be available for the World Cup. This is a preliminary squad, so should changes need to be made they will ahead of the support period” Bailey said.
Josh Hazlewood to play from the start, Pat Cummins to join from second half of T20 World Cup 2026

Meanwhile, a major update has arrived on the Australian pacers just before the start of the T20 World Cup 2026. As per reports, Hazlewood will be available from the start of the tournament, while Cummins won’t be available from the start and will join the squad from the second half of the ICC event.
With Hazlewood’s return on the line, Australia won’t feel the absence of Cummins and Mitchell Starc, who has retired from T20Is.
Reports further said that both Hazlewood and Cummins will be rested from the T20I series against Pakistan, which will precede the T20 World Cup. The Australian squad for the series will be announced later.
Meanwhile, Australia are placed in Group B in the tournament along with teams like Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Oman. They will begin their campaign against Ireland on February 11 and will play their first two league games in Colombo and their next two in Pallekele.
