Mohammad Kaif feels that Karun Nair deserved one more chance.

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif slammed current test captain Shubman Gill for dropping Karun Nair from the playing XI of the ongoing fourth test against England Cricket Team, which got underway at Old Trafford, Manchester on Wednesday, July 23.

India made three changes to their XI for the ongoing test against England. Skipper Gill, at the toss, mentioned that Sai Sudharsan, Shardul Thakur and Anshul Kamboj (debut) have replaced Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akash Deep respectively. Notably, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akash Deep were ruled out of the game.

Coming to Nair, he was part of the first three tests, however, he struggled to make a mark with the bat. The right-handed batsman failed to score a half-century across six innings that he played. He mustered 131 runs across three games with a top knock of 40 runs.

After Nair was dropped from the Indian XI for the Manchester test, cricketer-turned-commentator Kaif slammed Gill’s decision as he feels that the right-hander deserved one more chance.

“Today was Shubman Gill’s chance to back karun who was down but deserved one more chance. He should have picked Karun Nair. Chance missed to earn the respect when it comes to making tough decisions as a leader,” he wrote on X.

Notably, Nair might find it hard to get a spot in the test side now. He made a comeback after eight years to test cricket, however, he could not impress with his performance.

Meanwhile, England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to field first in the fourth test. In the first session, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul (46) gave a good start with the bat. They etched an opening stand of 91 runs. India are trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, and the Manchester test is a must-win game for the visitors.
