Kane Williamson has scored the second most test centuries after Joe Root among the Fab Four batters.

Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson hailed England’s Joe Root for performing consistently in test cricket for a lengthy period.

In the ongoing Sri Lanka test series, veteran batter Root broke the record of Sir Alastair Cook’s most test centuries by an England batter. Root raised his 34th test ton against Sri Lanka at Lord’s. The legendary opener Cook had 33 centuries in his glorious test career for England.

In the ongoing third test against Sri Lanka, Root has a great chance to become England’s all-time leading run-getter in the longest format. The 33-year-old Root has made 12390 runs till now, whereas Cook scored 12472 runs.

Joe Root has been phenomenal: Kane Williamson

Speaking to reporters in Greater Noida ahead of New Zealand’s one-off test against Afghanistan, which starts on September 9, Williamson heaped praise on England’s stalwart Root.

“Not really, no,” Williamson said when asked if the Fab Four is a motivating factor for him.

“You mentioned Joe Root. He has been something else for a long period of time. Obviously, there is a lot of attention on what he might be able to achieve in a number of years and it’s just incredible that that conversion can even be had. He has been phenomenal. I have been a big fan of his. Not just him, but the other guys as well, amazing how they have sort of moved the game forward in a big way,” Williamson added.

Cricket pundits have been regularly talking about the “Fab Four” of cricket, which includes Virat Kohli, Root, Williamson, and Steve Smith, who have dominated test cricket over the past decade or so. In the past few years, Root has performed consistently in test cricket, which has put him ahead of all three other greats for now.

Most test centuries among Fab Fours:

Joe Root: 34 centuries

Kane Williamson: 32 centuries

Steve Smith: 32 centuries

Virat Kohli: 29 centuries
