Karun Nair last played a test match for India in March 2017.

India and England are locking horns in the first of the five-match test series at Headingley, Leeds. Karun Nair was picked in India’s playing XI, marking his return to India’s test playing XI after eight years. The right-handed batsman last played a test match in March 2017 against Australia.

He made his test debut in December 2016 during the home series against England. Prior to the ongoing game, he played six tests for India and also slammed a triple century during his debut series. However, he could not cement his place in the test team back then.

After consistent performances in domestic cricket, Nair was picked in India’s test squad for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Prior to the test series, he showed a wonderful form for India A in the unofficial test series against England Lions, slamming a double ton in the first game.

After how many days has Karun Nair made it to India’s playing XI in test cricket?

Notably, Nair has made it to the India playing XI in test cricket after eight years, two months, and 23 days, which equals a total of 3006 days. He has been given the number six batting slot in the first ENG vs IND test at Headingley.

Talking about the game, England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Sai Sudharsan made his test debut for India in the encounter and was awarded the test cap by Cheteshwar Pujara ahead of the start of the encounter.

Sudharsan became the 317th player to represent India in test cricket. However, he got out for a four-ball duck while batting at No. 3. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul opened the batting for India in the clash. Jaiswal went on to score 101 off 159 deliveries on day 1.

Meanwhile, the ongoing test series against England is India’s first campaign in ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. Both teams will clash in five games during the series, with the last game scheduled to be played from July 31 to August 4 at The Kia Oval in London.
