Karun Nair slammed a century against England Lions in the first unofficial test.
Indian Cricket Team will travel to England next month for a five-match test series. Ahead of the series, India A, which includes plenty of main team’s players, are locking horns with England Lions in two unofficial tests. The first game between teams commenced on Friday, May 30, at St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury.
England Lions skipper James Rew won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. India lost openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (24) and Abhimanyu Easwaran (8) cheaply in the first innings. However, Karun Nair, who came at three, slammed a stunning century on Day 1 and made a stunning return to Indian setup.
Karun Nair hit his 24th century in the First-Class (FC) cricket and powered the scoreboard to over 300 runs. Notably, Nair is also part of India squad for the test series against England. Hence, him showing a wonderful form on England soil will be a big positive for Shubman Gill-led side.
Karun Nair made comeback to the test team after eight years
Notably, Karun Nair returned to the national team after eight years. He last played for Indian Cricket Team in a test series against Australia in March 2017. However, he made a return to test cricket on the back of his impressive show in the domestic circuit.
Karun Nair will restart his journey under the new test skipper Shubman Gill. On May 24, Gill was appointed as the new test captain by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He will lead the Indian Cricket Team in five tests against England during the tour. Rishabh Pant has been named as the new vice-captain.
The series will commence with the first game on June 20 at Headingly in Leeds. The fifth test will be played from July 31 to August 4 at Kennington Oval in London.
After the ongoing game between India A and England Lions, the two teams will go to Northampton for the second game. The match will begin on June 6 at County Ground. Opener Abhimanyu Easwaran is the skipper of the Indian A team.
