Kavya Maran’s SRH were the runners-up of IPL 2024, losing the final to KKR.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had an important meeting with all the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners on July 31. The crucial meeting was held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, where several topics were discussed regarding the IPL 2025 mega auction.
The IPL franchise owners pitched their opinions to the apex Indian cricket board regarding the retentions. From discussing the Impact Player Rule to player retention for the IPL 2025 mega auction, the franchise owners had lengthy discussions with the BCCI.
During the meeting, many IPL team owners were not in favour of the Impact Player Rule. Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan said he wishes for eight Right to Match (RTM) cards for the auction.
Kavya Maran asks for ban on players who pull out before the tournament
The Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran strongly suggested the banning of overseas players who withdraw before the start of the tournament for any reason other than injury. Some overseas players who have been sold for low prices have pulled out ahead of the beginning of the tournament.
It has been learned that SRH and Maran were unhappy with Wanindu Hasaranga, who was bought for INR 1.5 crore but pulled out of this year’s season. Previously, players like Alex Hales and Jason Roy have pulled out before the tournament, citing workload management and mental fatigue reasons.
“After being selected in the auction, if a player doesn’t come to play the season for any reason apart from injury, he should be banned,” Maran was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
“The franchises put in a lot of effort into the auction to form their combinations. If a player goes for a low amount in the auction, and subsequently doesn’t turn up, it affects the combination and the balance of the side. There have been many instances of overseas players not turning up for this reason,” she added.
