Kevin O’Brien played three tests, 153 ODIs and 110 T20Is for Ireland.

Former Ireland all-rounder Kevin O’Brien has called the recent racist and violent attacks on Indian citizens in Ireland “hateful” and “unrepresentative of the Irish people.”

Ireland’s Indian population has been the target of a series of violent racist assaults since late July 2025, which has caused widespread alarm and public censure. In just a few weeks, there have been at least six high-profile incidents, from attacks on working professionals and long-term residents to assaults on children.

The 80,000-strong Indian diaspora is alarmed by the occurrences that have happened in Dublin, Waterford, and other locations, prompting the Indian Embassy in Dublin to issue an urgent safety alert.

Following a recent surge in physical attacks against Indian nationals in Ireland, the Indian Embassy in Ireland issued a warning on August 1 to all Indians to exercise caution and be mindful of their surroundings for their personal security.

“Ireland is your home too.”- Kevin O’Brien

Former Irish cricketer Kevin O’Brien has come out in support of the Indian nationals amid recent racist attacks on them in the country. O’Brien played three tests, 153 ODIs, and 110 T20Is for Ireland from 2006 to 2021.

He made over 3600 ODI runs and 1973 T20I runs in addition to taking 114 ODI and 58 T20I wickets. His crowning moment was hitting a 50-ball century against England in the 2011 World Cup match in Bengaluru to lead his team to victory.

O’Brien praised the contributions made by the Indian population in Ireland in a video message that was uploaded to X on Tuesday, promising that they were “deeply valued.”

“Namaste, I want to say how deeply saddened I am by the recent racist and hateful acts against Indians in Ireland. These attacks do not represent who we are as a people. India and its people hold a very special place in my heart. I want to reiterate to the Indian community that Ireland is your home too. Your contribution to Irish society is immense, and we deeply value everything you do,” O’Brien stated.

The Irish Embassy in New Delhi shared his video with the statement that the two nations will not be “shaken by the actions of a small few.”

“A special message from Irish cricketer @KevinOBrien113. The bond between our countries will remain unshaken by the actions of a small few,” it said.
