KKR all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to skip IPL 2023 due to National duties - Reports
Shakib Al Hasan, who was bought for 1.5 crores in the auction before this season, will reportedly not participate for the KKR.
In another setback to Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2023, Shakib al Hasan has reportedly decided to skip the entire season. Due to a packed schedule with the Bangladesh Cricket team, he has decided to skip the entire Indian Premier League season. This is a massive blow to KKR after their skipper Shreyas Iyer was ruled out due to an injury. The tournament has just begun and KKR started poorly in their opening clash against Punjab Kings. Shakib al Hasan was recently included in Bangladesh's squad for one-off test against Ireland, which is scheduled to begin from 4th April in Dhaka.
International duty keeping Shakib Al Hasan out of the league
After the test against Ireland, next month Bangladesh are scheduled to visit Ireland. Being their ace player, Shakib will be on national duty again. With this tight scheduling, Shakib may not be able to take part in many games for KKR. A senior KKR official told the media, “Shakib could remain busy with a number of international assignments for Bangladesh during the IPL… So, KKR offered the proposition for Shakib to be replaced by another player and he agreed”. Kolkata will be soon making this official.
Bangladesh require Shakib al Hasan at service
All-rounder Shakib al Hasan is one of the most important player in Bangladesh Cricket. Shakib will be leading the test squad against Ireland which is set to start from 4th April. Previously in IPL 2021, Shakib could not take part in the latter half of the tournament because of not getting the NOC from the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Apart from Shakib al Hasan, Litton Das is also part of the Kolkata Knight Riders setup. Litton may join the squad As soon as Bengladesh’s test with Ireland ends
In their first game of IPL 20233, Kolkata Knight Riders were beaten by Punjab Kings at PCA Stadium in Mohali. Kolkata will be hosting Royal Challengers Bangalore at Eden Gardens on 6th April in their next game. In the absence of Shreyas Iyer left hand batter Nitish Rana has taken charge as Interim Captain. KKR will soon look for a replacement for Shakib al Hasan.
