Nitish Rana-led Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Chennai Super Kings in their own backyard by 6 wickets.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won their recent IPL 2023 match by defeating the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 6 wickets in their own home of MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 14, Sunday.

However, their captain, Nitish Rana, who played a brilliant knock of 57* in the victory, was fined INR 24 lakhs by the BCCI for maintaining a slow overrate. This was his second offence for the same thing and hence the fine amount was doubled.

Along with him, every member of the playing XI was also docked a certain amount of match fees as fine.

"As it was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Rana has been fined Rs.24 lakh and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, is fined Rs.6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee, whichever is lesser," read an IPL media advisory.

KKR won the game by six wickets to remain in the hunt for a play-off berth. CSK is second in the standings and is expected to finish in the top four.

The match provided an unwanted result for the home side as after winning the toss and batting first, CSK managed 144/6 with Shivam Dube (48*) and Devon Conway (30) being the top scorers. For KKR, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy picked two wickets each.

In reply, Deepak Chahar picked 3 quick wickets to rattle the top order of KKR, dismissing Jason Roy (12), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Venkatesh Iyer for single-digit scores. But then half-centuries from captain Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh, who handled the CSK spinners masterfully took KKR to the win.

Nitish made 57* with 6 fours and 1 six, while Rinku made 54 in 43 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes as KKR romped home by 6 wickets.
