Ajinkya Rahane is the captain of KKR in IPL 2026.
The Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) will start on March 28, and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will play their first game against the Mumbai Indians (MI). The encounter will take place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 29.
Ajinkya Rahane has been retained as KKR captain for the upcoming season, and they will aim for a big comeback after a dismal performance last season. Kolkata failed to reach the playoffs last year and finished in eighth spot in the points table.
Out of 14 games, they could only win five matches and lost seven. Two of their matches were washed out due to rain, which also affected their progress towards the end of the tournament.
The three-time champions released many players from their squad in a bid to develop a stronger team. In the IPL 2026 mini-auction, they picked Australian all-rounder Cameron Green for INR 25.20 crore, making him the costliest player in the event. They also captured Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana for INR 18 crore.
Rachin Ravindra, Tim Seifert, Akash Deep, and Finn Allen were a few well-known players that KKR bought in the auction. They picked 13 players in the auction.
They also picked Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman; however, he was released from the squad after the BCCI’s instructions. They have suffered a big blow as their star pacer, Harshit Rana, is set to miss the entire tournament due to a knee injury.
Players like Rovman Powell, Rinku Singh, Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Rachin Ravindra, Cameron Green, and Rahul Tripathi form a strong batting unit for the side. In the bowling department, Sunil Narine, Akash Deep, Varun Chakravarthy, Pathirana, and Umran Malik will be in focus.
