KKR & Rinku Singh break all-time IPL record, Chase down most runs off final over

Rinku Singh smashed 5 sixes off 5 deliveries when KKR needed 28 runs to win off the last 5 deliveries against GT.

Not often do we see teams chase down the target of 20 plus runs in the final over. In one of the rarest of the rare moments in the Indian Premier League, Rinku Singh earned the respect of fans for chasing an almost impossible 29 runs in the final over of the KKR innings. Kolkata Knight Riders were given a target of 205 runs by Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. Umesh Yadav, on strike in the final over, took a single and passed strike to Rinku Singh. Rinku with his 5 humongous sixes against Yash Dayal made an entry in the record books. This is the only time in the history of T20 where a team has scored 30 or more runs in their last over while chasing.

In the IPL teams have chased down the 20 plus target before as well, but not like how Kolkata Knight Riders did against Gujarat Titans today. Before today's match, Rising Pune Super Giants had the record of chasing the most number of runs in the final over. They chased 23 runs against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2016. MS Dhoni smashed 3 sixes and a four to Axar Patel in the final over of the game. In 2022, Rashid Khan for Gujarat Titans smashed 3 sixes in 4 balls to chase 22 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Mumbai Indians and Deccan Chargers have also chased down 21 runs in their final over in 2011 and 2009 respectively.
