Shah Rukh Khan’s KKR lifted the IPL 2024 trophy by defeating SRH in Chennai.

On July 31, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a meeting with all the franchise owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The important meeting was held at the BCCI office in Mumbai to discuss several crucial topics regarding the IPL 2025 auction.

The franchise owners discussed the two main points in the meeting: the Impact Player rule and the player retention rules for the IPL 2025 auction.

The impact player rule was introduced to give more playing time to Indian players. However, since it’s implementation, many have criticized that this will deter the growth of the all-rounders and that it is not good for Indian cricket’s future.

Meanwhile, player retention for the upcoming cash-rich league remained a hot topic during the meeting. It has been reported that some franchises want as many as seven retentions while a few want fewer numbers.

Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan asks for eight RTM cards

Three-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owner Shah Rukh Khan pitched to the BCCI that as many as eight players should be brought back via the Right To Match (RTM) cards. It was also reported that the KKR owner was strongly against IPL mega auction.

The RTM card was previously used in the 2018 mega auction but was omitted in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

The Kolkata-based franchise are the defending champions of IPL. The Shreyas Iyer-led KKR defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the grand finale of the 2024 edition to clinch their third prestigious title.
