KL Rahul hit his first century of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

KL Rahul broke the big record of Rohit Sharma in the recent India vs Netherlands ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match on November 12, 2023. This is the last league stage match of the tournament, with India already through to the semi-finals.

Rohit Sharma won the toss in Bengaluru and chose to bat first on a batting wicket. In 12 overs, Rohit Sharma (61) and Shubman Gill (51) contributed 100 runs for the first wicket. Virat Kohli made 51 runs before succumbing to Roelof van der Merwe. However, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul took control and took India past 400 runs.

Shreyas Iyer batted brilliantly for 84 balls to complete a fantastic century. He went on to hit his ODI career-best of 128* in 94 balls, with 10 fours and 5 sixes.

Rahul, on the other hand, hit the fastest century by an Indian in World Cup history, smashing 102 in 63 balls with 11 fours and four sixes. He also added 208 runs for the fourth wicket with Iyer.

India finished with 410/4, their second-highest World Cup team total. Logan van Beek gave 107 runs in 10 overs, while Bas de Leede was the pick of Netherlands bowlers with 2/82.

KL Rahul hits the fastest century by an Indian in Cricket World Cups

During his brilliant knock of 102, KL Rahul shattered a few records on his way as well. The biggest record was that his 62-ball ton was the fastest by an Indian batter in Cricket World Cup history. He hit 11 fours and four sixes in his knock.

KL Rahul broke the record of Rohit Sharma, who had hit a ton off just 63 balls. The Indian skipper’s knock came against Afghanistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Delhi. A few other Indian batters to score sub-100 ball century in CWC history are Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer (84 balls in today’s match).
