Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will remain legends of Indian cricket, feels KL Rahul.
Opening batter KL Rahul will be the key batsman for the Indian Cricket Team in the upcoming test series against the England Cricket Team. Following Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement from test cricket, the right-hander is the most experienced batsman for the team in the test series.
Notably, Rahul played many test matches under the captaincy of Sharma and Kohli. Both batting legends announced their retirement from test cricket last month, ahead of India’s tour of England 2025. Later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Shubman Gill as the new captain in tests, with Rishabh Pant being his deputy.
After Sharma and Kohli’s retirement, some England players also expressed their disappointment over not facing them in the five-match test series. England skipper Ben Stokes and all-rounder Chris Woakes said that it will be a shame not to see both of them in test cricket anymore.
KL Rahul reacts on playing tests without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
Rahul also has reacted to playing tests without Sharma and Kohli. During a chat with the Delhi Capitals (DC) media team, the right-handed batsman said that it will be a huge miss to not see both the legends with the team this time. Rahul also mentioned that he has never played a test match without Kohli or Sharma in the past.
“Virat and Rohit have been the pillars of Indian cricket for the last decade or so, and not having them around will be a huge miss. In my whole career so far, I have never walked into a team where there is no Virat or Rohit. The 50-odd Test matches that I have played, either Virat or Rohit or both of them have been there”, the 33-year-old said.
Rahul also reckoned that Sharma and Kohli will remain legends of Indian cricket, and the youngsters will have to step up after their retirement from tests.
“To walk into that dressing room feels a bit strange. But of course, you have to respect their decision. They have given absolutely everything for the country and they will remain legends of Indian cricket. But it’s time for the rest of us to step up,” he added.
Meanwhile, Rahul is expected to play a key role for India in the test series against England. Batting as an opener for India A recently, he slammed a century and a half-century against England Lions in the second unofficial test match at Northampton.
