KL Rahul is set to lead India in ODIs against South Africa.
The Indian team will play South Africa in a three-match ODI series starting from November 30 in Ranchi. The experienced wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul will lead the Men in Blue in the ODI series as Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the series due to neck spasm.
Gill suffered a neck injury while batting in the first innings of the Kolkata test against South Africa. The test captain did not feature in the playing XI in the second test, which was played in Guwahati. He is expected to make his return against New Zealand in January.
KL Rahul’s captaincy record in ODIs

While Shubman Gill sits out, KL Rahul will be the captain in the ODIs. There were multiple contenders for the leadership role in the absence of Shubman Gill, with Rishabh Pant also in the fray. But selectors chose Rahul for the role because of his experience and his significance in the middle order, which makes him a regular starter.
So far, Rahul has led India in 12 One-Day Internationals. He has guided the Men in Blue to victory in 8 of those matches while the team fell short in the remaining four. With a 67% win record, the 33-year-old is a reliable option for India to lead when Shubman Gill is not around.
