Preparations for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 are already underway, with franchises beginning to finalise their support staff ahead of the auction and pre-season camps. Over the years, IPL teams have expanded their backroom setups, with specialists handling coaching, strategy, player development, fitness and rehabilitation.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are no different. The three-time IPL champions have continued to rely on experienced former international cricketers and support personnel to oversee different aspects of the team’s preparation.
Before the IPL 2027 season begins, KKR are likely to make more appointments and have already formed a strong nucleus that will be engaged in coaching, strategising, and player management.
KKR support staff for IPL 2027
Abhishek Nayar is expected to resume his role as Head Coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, having been part of the Knight Riders franchise for quite some time now. He plays a major part in devising policies and strategies of KKR while also taking charge of player development.
Shane Watson, the former Australia all-rounder, will play the role of the Assistant Coach. He adds a wealth of coaching experience from his playing days. Meanwhile, Dwayne Bravo continues to be the Mentor of the Kolkata franchise.
The pace-bowling department will be overseen by former New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee. Veteran all-rounder Andre Russell will serve as the Power Coach, working with players on strength, power-hitting and match-specific skill development.
Ryan ten Doeschate has been newly appointed as the Head of Cricket Strategy. The former Netherlands all-rounder will be responsible for overseeing long-term cricket planning and strategies for the franchise.
