KKR will play their fourth IPL final when they face SRH on May 26, 2024.
The Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the grand finale of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This final of this year’s tournament will take place on Sunday night at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Given how simply outstanding these two teams have been throughout the tournament, it’s difficult to consider any team as outright favourites heading into the final.
Captained by Shreyas Iyer and mentored by former skipper Gautam Gambhir, the Knight Riders finished at the top of the points table for the first time in IPL history. They registered 9 wins and lost only three matches, while their last two league phase matches were washed out. They secured 20 points at the end of the league phase.
Even though KKR’s last two group games were rained out, the two-time champions put on one of the best performances of the season when they thumped SRH by eight wickets in Qualifier 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Mitchell Starc proved his record-breaking price tag of INR 24.75 crores by stepping up on the big stage with a three-wicket haul that included the huge wicket of Travis Head in the first over of the game. Iyer’s side is now only one win away from sealing their third IPL trophy.

The Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise has featured in three IPL finals, out of which they won two and lost one.
KKR won their first two IPL finals, both under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. They defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2012 final and then beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2014 final. However, they lost to MS Dhoni’s CSK in the IPL 2021 final, when KKR were led by Eoin Morgan.

The IPL 2024 final promises to be an exciting contest given KKR and SRH have been the two standout teams this season. In the league phase, the two-time winners had nine wins and SRH registered eight wins. After losing in Qualifier 1, SRH bounced back superbly in the Qualifier 2 to defeat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 36 runs.
