Kumar Dharmasena signalled “inside edge” after England appealed for LBW against Sai Sudharsan.
The England Cricket Team and the Indian Cricket Team are locking horns with each other in fifth game of the five-match series. The match between the two teams is taking place at The Oval in London, which commenced on 31st July.
On a green, lush track, India were asked to bat first, and they didn’t have a great start. Yashasvi Jaiswal (2) was the first wicket to fall, and then KL Rahul (14) also perished as the Shubman Gill-led side was left reeling at 38 for two.
After Yashasvi Jaiswal got out, Sai Sudharsan, who scored a fifty in the last game, walked out to bat at three. He was tested a lot as England bowlers bowled impeccable lines and lengths, making run scoring difficult.
Umpire Kumar Dharmasena saves a review for England
Sai Sudharsan also survived a few chances. But what caught the attention of many was how umpire Kumar Dharmasena saved a review for England when the batter was hit on the pads early on in his innings.
The incident happened on the second ball of the 13th over when Josh Tongue bowled a screaming in-swinging yorker, which caught Sai Sudharsan by surprise. The England players were very confident in their appeal, but umpire Kumar Dharmasena didn’t term it out.
However, what was surprising was that after shaking his head, he signalled “inside edge”. This went viral on the internet, with many lashing out at the umpire for his antics and helping England save their review.
Here are the pictures:
Later, it was shown on replays that it was a low full-toss and Sai Sudharsan was caught in an absolute tangle. He was lucky he managed to get a little inside edge on that.
However, after that, Sai Sudharsan has played brilliantly and has put England bowlers under pressure. He would be keen to convert his start and help his team post a big innings on the total. Skipper Shubman Gill has also joined him, and they would be keen to stitch a big partnership.
