"What about studies?" How Kwena Maphaka's mom reacted after he was roped in by MI for IPL 2024

Kwena Maphaka was roped in by Mumbai Indians as Dilshan Madushanka’s replacement for IPL 2024.

South Africa U19 pacer Kwena Maphaka was an impressive name during the entire ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2024 played in South Africa. Maphaka ended up as tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 21 wickets. Maphaka was a star for the future among cricket fans with his brilliant pace bowling efforts in the mega youth event.

Kwena Maphaka has now got a big boost to his cricket career. Maphaka has been included in the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad as Dilshan Madushanka’s replacement. Dilshan Madushanka was ruled out of the IPL 2024 due to hamstring injury. Madushanka got injured during Sri Lanka’s three-match ODI series against Bangladesh played last week.

‘How will you manage your studies?’

In a video released by MI, Kwena Maphaka was posed a question on behalf of his mom. Maphaka’s mom asked his son about how will he manage his studies. Being a teenager, Kwena Maphaka was quick with his response and said He will somehow manage the time. Maphaka said, “Yes, it’s definitely going to be a difficult time. But it’s a lot of extra lessons and a lot of hardwork.”

Left-arm medium pacer Maphaka said that MI call-up was an unexpected news for him. Maphaka added, “It feels really good. Definitely something unexpected. But I’m really happy to be here. It’s a beautiful city,” Maphaka was busy with CSA T20 Challenge tournament and representing Lions Cricket Team while he received call-up from MI. Maphaka picked up seven wickets in four matches in the tournament.

Kwena Maphaka’s mom was also happy after his son got a call-up from MI to play in the IPL 2024. Maphaka’s mom said, “It’s an honour. We are very blessed to have Kwena be a part of such a big family of Mumbai Indians and I hope he is going to fit in and be welcomed.” MI will play their opening game of the IPL 2024 against Gujarat Titans on 23rd March.
