Virat Kohli is the world's most followed cricketer on social media.

The game of cricket has gained immense popularity in the last decade or two. The growing craze of the franchise league has taken it to another level, which is why it is the second-most followed sport in the world after football. More than 100 countries in the world play this sport, which has forced this beautiful sport to feature in the Olympics after 128 years of waiting.

Cricket is back at the Olympics 2028, which will be held in Log Angeles. The decision to add cricket, along with baseball, softball, flag football, and lacrosse, to the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 (LA28) was taken on Monday at the 141st IOC Session by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The shortest format of the game will take place in LA28.

"Virat Kohli has 340 million Social Media followers"- LA 2028 Sports Director

The last time cricket was featured in the Olympics was in 1990 in Paris, when Great Britain and France were the two teams to participate. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is eagerly waiting to target the 2.5 billion cricket fans across the world. This sport is also gaining an audience in US, and they recently launched their own T20 league, Major League Cricket (MLC).

IOC already capitalized on former Indian captain Virat Kohli's fame by utilizing his image in all official media to promote cricket. LA 2028 Sports Director praised Kohli for being one of the most popular sportsmen, let alone cricketers. LA 2028 Sports Director said, "Virat Kohli has 340 million social media followers, making him the 3rd most followed athlete, surpassing the combined numbers of LeBron, Tom Brady, and Woods."

Virat Kohli has a huge fan base. Not just in India but all over the world, fans admire him and follow him in every possible way. It will not be a wrong statement to say that Virat Kohli is an icon of the game, and using his name is a perfect strategy by IOC to attract the attention of cricket fans across the globe.
