LA28 Olympics: Cricket schedule announced, gold medal match to take place on this date

Six men’s teams and six women’s teams will compete in cricket at the LA28 Olympics.
Cricket will be one of the five additions at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The organisers have announced the schedule for the sport at the LA28 Olympics as six men’s teams and six women’s teams will compete in the event.
Each team can name a 15-member squad for the LA28 Olympics. Cricket will be returning to the Olympics after 128 years. In the 1900 Paris Olympics, cricket was played with a one-off game between Great Britain and France. Great Britain won the gold medal.
At the LA28 Olympics, cricket will be played in T20 format, and the tournament will witness double-header games. The first game will be played from 9:00 AM (9:30 PM IST), while the second game will start at 6:30 PM (7:00 AM IST) the following day.
Cricket games to commence on July 12 in the LA28 Olympics
The women’s T20I tournament will commence on July 12. The medal matches will take place on July 20. The men’s tournament will begin on July 22. The matches for the gold, silver, and bronze medals will be played on July 29. No cricket events will take place on July 14 and July 21.
Fairgrounds Cricket Stadium in California will be hosting all the cricket games in the Olympics. It is located about 50 kilometres from Los Angeles. The venue has served events like concerts, trade shows, sporting events, and cultural gatherings since 1922.
Meanwhile, a men’s cricket tournament was organised at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. South Africa won the gold medal in the tournament. A women’s cricket tournament took place at the CWG 2022 in Birmingham. Cricket has been part of the Asian Games in 2010, 2014, and 2023.
Meanwhile, teams like India, Australia, England, South Africa, and New Zealand will be among the favourites to be part of the LA28 Olympics. In women’s cricket, India, Australia, England, and the West Indies will be red-hot favourites to qualify for the Olympic Games.
