India will begin their two-match Test series vs Sri Lanka on August 15.

India are set to begin their two-match Test series against Sri Lanka on August 15, 2026, with the opening match scheduled to be played in Galle. The second Test will take place from August 23 to 27 as the two sides meet in a Test series for the first time since 2022.

The upcoming series will be another opportunity for India to continue their strong record against Sri Lanka in Test cricket. India have not lost a Test series to Sri Lanka in more than a decade, which in itself talks about the dominance of the Shubman Gill-led side.

The Test series between Sri Lanka and India has always been exciting; however, India have largely dominated the Test contests between the two teams. Sri Lanka did register an individual Test victory over India in 2015, making it the last time India lost a Test match against Sri Lanka.

India’s last recent Test series defeat against Sri Lanka came during their 2008 tour, when Sri Lanka won the three-match series 2-1. The hosts won the first Test in Colombo by an innings and 239 runs, while India won the second Test in Galle by 170 runs. Sri Lanka then secured the series with a victory in the third Test by eight wickets in Colombo.

The result remains Sri Lanka’s last bilateral Test series victory over India. Since then, India have won or drawn every Test series between the two sides.

Sri Lanka’s most recent Test victory over India came in the first Test of the 2015 series in Galle. The hosts won by 63 runs after India, chasing 176, were dismissed for 112 in their second innings. Rangana Herath took seven wickets in the match.

India recovered from that defeat to win the next two Tests in Colombo and claim the series 2-1. Since then, Sri Lanka have not beaten India in a Test match. They would be keen to carry on their good record this time around and win another series.
