India are set to play a one-off Test against Afghanistan in from June 6.

India and Afghanistan are set to clash for a one-off Test starting from 6th June. This match is not a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle as Afghanistan are not a part of the tournament. This fixture marks the first-ever test match being played at the MYS International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh.

India have picked a full-strength squad for the same except resting Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja. Gurnoor Brar, Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey earned their maiden call-up while Devdutt Padikkal earned a callback after a stellar domestic season. KL Rahul has been named the vice-captain while Shubman Gill is set to lead the side.

Afghanistan played their first Test match against India back in 2018 in Bengaluru. Although India won the Test within 2 days, but Afghanistan’s fight till the last session was appreciated by many.

India post a score of 474 in the first innings of the game with centuries from the openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan. Significant contributions from KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, scoring 54 and 71 respectively, took India to an above par score. Yamin Ahmadzai shone with 3 crucial wickets and the lowest economy. While Rashid Khan and Wafadar Momand picked two wickets each.

Afghanistan got bundled down for 109 in their first innings. When the follow-on was enforced, they could not go past 103. Md Nabi in the 1st innings and Hasmatullah Shahidi in the 2nd remained their highest run scorers, with 24 and 36* respectively.

Afghanistan’s bowling and fielding efforts was something that was talked of highly during that match. Practically they had lost the match in the first innings, however not at one stage, it seemed that they had given up.

Shikhar Dhawan was the Player of the Match for his scintillating 107 off 96 deliveries. Indian team extended a heartwarming gesture by inviting the Afghanistan team to pose with the cup.
