List of Indian players who are likely to be called up for IND vs WI ODIs

The IND vs WI ODI series will begin from September 27.

With the upcoming ODI series against West Indies, there is no doubt that selectors will find the perfect ground for experimentation. Looking at the fact that the focus is already on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, selectors may opt for a combination of match-winning skills and future planning.

Hence, this team will include both new tactics and some players who had a bit of time out from playing 50-over cricket. The series will begin on the 27th of September, at the same time when the Indian contingent will be in Japan for the Asian Games. Below are five players who have high chances of being selected.

5. Yashasvi Jaiswal 

Yashasvi Jaiswal already impressed in Test and T20I cricket. However, given his dynamic style of play, Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes a terrifying prospect in 50-over cricket. Hence, giving him a shot against West Indies enables selectors to test his aggressive approach in this format and provide India with a good left-handed opening batter for the 2027 vision. He last featured during India’s ODI series against Afghanistan and has scored two centuries in 6 matches in the format. 

4. Rishabh Pant

The potential comeback of Rishabh Pant immediately brings value to India’s middle order. In addition to his usual ability to hit balls explosively and change the course of the game, his left-handed batting is a huge threat to opponents’ spin strategy in the middle overs.

He might be called back into the side, as Ishan Kishan will be part of the Indian contingent for the Asian Games in Japan. India’s first game against Japan begins on the 28th of September. 

3. Ravindra Jadeja

The balance that Ravindra Jadeja adds to any white-ball eleven is difficult to ignore. Being capable of holding run rates in the middle overs and scoring in the last overs of an innings, he is an invaluable asset. 

Bringing him back from his experience will ensure that the team gets tactical stability along with the youngsters. Axar Patel is likely to miss the series as he is also part of the Indian contingent for the Asian Games. 

2. Mohammed Siraj

Having taken care of himself amidst tough schedules in international cricket recently, Mohammed Siraj is all set to be the one telling the story about the pace bowlers. With the knack of picking wickets early with the new ball and his skill in controlling the death overs, Siraj is a standout performer. In Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, he is the perfect fit for leading India’s main pace battery.

1. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad keeps on piling on the runs in domestic cricket to keep himself in contention. A classic batsman who has mastered the art of pace control and changing gears but has not gotten many opportunities to play for India. His last appearance came during the South Africa series, where he also scored his maiden ODI hundred. 

He is the perfect top-order backup if the management wants to try some new players in the middle order. Especially with Shreyas Iyer not being part of the upcoming series due to his Asian Games commitment, he is most likely to enter the playing XI.
