Asia Cup 2025: Blow for Bangladesh! Litton Das in danger of missing India game after injury scare- Reports

Litton Das’s Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka in their opening game of the Super Four.

Litton Das, the captain of the Bangladesh Cricket Team, may not be able to play in the next Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match against the Indian Cricket Team after suffering a back strain while exercising at the ICC Academy Ground. The injury was received by Das on September 22 while participating in batting practice.

Litton was practicing a square cut in the nets when he suddenly felt a pang on the left side of his waist, forcing him to halt right away. Team physio Bayzidul Islam evaluated the Bangladesh captain on the scene, and Debashis Chowdhury, the chief physician, was also there.

Despite receiving treatment on the field, Litton Das stopped batting following the incident. Given how tight their schedule is in the Super Four stage, Litton’s setback comes at a worrying time for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh management to take a final call after medical assessment of Litton Das

On September 24, they will play India, and the following day, they will play Pakistan. Although Litton Das did not appear to be experiencing any severe pain following the back issue, the Tigers would suffer a significant blow if he were to miss any games.

“We will have a look at him (Litton) today because from the outside he looks quite okay, but we need to conduct a medical assessment before making a final call,” a BCB official told Cricbuzz on Tuesday.

His absence could have an impact on their chances in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four games because they depend on him both as a captain and as a vital hitter.

Bangladesh will also have to find a new captain in case Litton Das is injured for the Indian game, as no vice-captain has been named by them. Furthermore, Litton has been the best batter for Bangladesh with 119 runs in four matches at an average of 29.75 and a strike rate of 129.34 in the Asia Cup.

Although net run rate will be a factor in the qualification scenario, Bangladesh is now only one victory away from guaranteeing a position in the Asia Cup 2025 final after defeating Sri Lanka by four wickets in their first Super Four match.
