Former New Zealand pace bowler and now commentator, Simon Doull has of late criticised Babar Azam and Virat Kohli for their batting. Doull has been critical of the approach where they both slow down their innings whenever they are close to a milestone. Simon Doull was trolled badly for his comment on both players. Now, he has opened up about his time in Pakistan and PSL as a cricket commentator. Simon Doull faced a ‘mental torture’ like condition in Pakistan after one of his comments criticising Pakistan and Peshawar Zalmi Captain Babar Azam.
'Living in Pakistan is like living in Jail' - Simon Doull
A renowned commentator who got his views and does not hesitate to state them on air has talked about his time in Pakistan. Doull has termed his time in Pakistan as a ‘Jail”. Simon Doull speaking to Geo TV said, “Living in Pakistan is like living in Jail, I was not allowed to go out as Babar Azam fans were waiting for me. I stayed without food for many days. Even I was mentally tortured, by the grace of God, I somehow escaped”. Doull was crticised for his views on Babar Azam inning.
In one of the PSL games against Quetta Gladiators, Babar Azam went on to score 115 runs in 63 balls. Babar took 14 deliveries to reach 100 from 83, this is where Doull openly criticised Babar’s approach. Then he said as an expert, “Rather than putting the team first… The last little while, that’s all that has been happening. Rather than looking for boundaries, still, so much firepower to come. Hundreds are brilliant, stats are great, but it has to be team first”. Recently he also criticised Virat Kohli in the same manner for the same approach against Lucknow Super Giants.
RCB Opener Virat Kohli took 10 balls to reach 50 from his score of 42. Doull said, “From 42 to 50 he took 10 balls. He is concerned about his milestone. I don’t think there’s room for this in this game anymore”. Lucknow Super Giants chased down 213 runs in a dramatic finish. Few others had also blamed Virat Kohli for slowing down during his inning to reach the half century mark.
