The Bangladesh cricket team has been bowled out once below 50 runs in test cricket.

The Bangladesh cricket team became a test-playing nation in 2000. They played their first ever test match against the Indian cricket team. Sadly, they lost the test by nine wickets in Dhaka.

In recent years, Bangladesh have improved their performance in the white-ball formats. However, their performance in test cricket has not been that great. The country is struggling to win matches, which has impacted their overall performances in the longest format.

There have been many instances when Bangladesh batters failed to cope with strong bowling attacks they face, which resulted them registering some of the lowest scores in test cricket.

On that note, let’s take a look at five lowest scores recorded by the Bangladesh cricket team in test cricket.

5. 86 vs Sri Lanka, Colombo, 2005

Bangladesh’s fifth-lowest test total is 86 runs, which came against Sri Lanka in the Colombo test in 2005.

Talking about the match, Bangladesh scored 188 runs in their first innings with help of Habibul Bashar’s 84 runs. In reply, Sri Lanka slammed 370/9 before declaration. Tillakaratne Dilshan top-scored for the hosts with 86.

Bangladesh were then outclassed by Muttiah Muralitharan, who picked 6/18 in the second innings. It resulted in Bangladesh being bowled out for just 86 runs and losing the game by an innings and 96 runs.

4. 80 vs South Africa, Gqeberha, 2022

In the Gqeberha test of Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa in 2022, Bangladesh were bundled out for just 80 runs. South Africa slammed 453 after Dean Elgar played a gritty knock of 70 runs and Keshav Maharaj chipped in with 84 runs.

In reply, Bangladesh managed to score only 217 in their first innings with Mushfiqur Rahim scoring 51. The hosts then scored 176/6 in their second innings before declaring and set a huge target of 413 for the visitors.

While chasing, Bangladesh were blown away for just 80 runs as South African spinner Keshav Maharaj bagged a seven-wicket haul. The Proteas won the match by 332 runs.

3. 62 vs Sri Lanka, Colombo, 2007

During the Colombo test against Sri Lanka in 2007, Bangladesh were dismissed for just 62 runs, which is their third-lowest total in test cricket. Batting first, Bangladesh were all out for just 62 runs after Lastih Malinga and Muthiah Muralitharan bagged four wickets each for Sri Lanka.

In reply, wicket-keeper batter Kumar Sangakkara played a stunning knock of 200*, which guided them to 451/6d.

In the second innings, Bangladesh made 299 with Mohammad Ashraful scoring an unbeaten 129. However, his knock went in vain as the visitors lost the match by an innings and 90 runs.

2. 53 vs South Africa, Durban, 2022

Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa in 2022 wasn’t a fruitful one for them as they registered two of their top five lowest test totals. Their lowest total of the tour – 53 came in the Durban test.

South Africa scored 367 and Bangladesh made 298 runs in their first innings respectively. The hosts were then bowled out for 204 runs in the second innings, setting a target of 274 runs for Bangladesh.

While chasing, Bangladesh surrendered to Keshav Maharaj’s spin bowling masterclass.

The left-arm spinner bagged a seven-wicket haul as Bangladesh were bundled out for just 53 runs. South Africa won the game by 220 runs.

1. 43 vs West Indies, North Sound, 2018

Bangladesh’s lowest test total ever – 43 – came against West Indies in 2018.

Batting first, Bangladesh were blown away for just 43 runs after Kemar Roach took five wickets. In reply, West Indies notched up 406 runs with Kraigg Brathwaite scoring a brilliant hundred (121).

Bangladesh then managed only 144 in their second innings after Shannon Gabriel bagged five wickets. West Indies won the one-sided affair by an innings and 219 runs.
