LSG pacer Mark Wood set to miss out on later stages of the IPL 2023

LSG pacer Mark Wood has so far picked 11 wickets in 4 matches he has played in the IPL 2023.

Lucknow Super Giants pace bowler Mark Wood is set to fly back to England at the end of May. Wood is expected to be a father in the later stages of the IPL 2023. Wood has missed the last few games for the Lucknow Super Giants due to illness. Wood has been in great wicket-taking form in this season’s Indian Premier League. Lucknow have gone with Afghanistan’s pace bowler Naveen Ul Haq in place of Wood. Wood will be flying back to England in the coming weeks of the tournament.

Mark Wood will fly back to England

The English pace bowler, Mark Wood has been in a great rhythm and picked up 11 wickets in 4 games for Lucknow Super Giants. He also held Purple Cap briefly. Wood picked up 5 wickets against Delhi Capitals. Wood and his wife Sarah are expecting their second child in the next month. Wood is planning to be available for his wife during that period. Apart from Wood, most of the England players taking part in the league will stay till the end of the tournament. The IPL 2023 final will be played on 28th May.

England are scheduled to play one-off test against Ireland from 1st June. England and Wales Cricket Board will be asking their players to leave the tournament mid-way. ECB will allow England players to take part in the entire IPL season if their respective team is qualified for the Playoffs and Final. Right now Wood, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Sam Curran, Jofra Archer, Jason Roy, Harry Brook, Phil Salt, David Willey, and Jos Buttler are taking part in the league.

ECB is also seriously looking for their Ashes preparation. Australia after the ICC World Test Championship final against India, will take on England in the Ashes 2023. Ashes is scheduled to begin in June 2023. Lucknow Super Giants are currently placed in third position in the points table. Lucknow will take on Punjab Kings in their next encounter at PCA Stadium in Mohali on 28th April.
