Rohit Sharma retired from test cricket on May 7.

Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from test cricket on May 7. The right-handed batsman pulled down the curtains on his test career after representing the Indian Cricket Team for 11 years from 2013 to 2024. After his retirement, many former and active cricketers congratulated him for his successful test career.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also congratulated the former test skipper. Sharma, who has led the test team since February 2022, will continue to lead the side in ODIs. Since he also hung up his boots in T20I format last year, he will only represent the Indian Cricket Team in ODIs now.

The 38-year-old played 67 tests for India and slammed 4301 runs across 116 innings at an average of 40.58. He also hammered 18 fifties and 12 tons in the red-ball format with a top knock of 212. Sharma also led the side in 24 tests, winning 12 games and losing nine matches. Three games ended in a draw.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis congratulates Rohit Sharma

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis came up with a special gesture for Sharma. He met Sharma at his official residence and congratulated him on his successful test career. He also felicitated him with a garland of flowers.

Sharing the photos of the moment on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Maharashtra CM wrote, “It was great to welcome, meet and interact with Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma at my official residence Varsha. I extended my best wishes to him on his retirement from Test cricket and for continued success in the next chapter of his journey!

Last month, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) also felicitated Sharma by renaming a stand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai after his name. Sharma played a vital role in helping the Indian cricket team win two ICC trophies in the last one year.

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old is currently busy with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which will restart on May 17. Sharma, who plays for Mumbai Indians (MI) as an opener, has slammed 300 runs in 11 games at a strike rate of 152.28. The MI opener has also smacked three half-centuries. MI occupies the fourth spot in the IPL 2025 points table.
