Mahmudullah retired from all forms of cricket on March 12, 2025.

Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah announced his retirement from international cricket on March 12, 2024. The announcement marks an end to a resilient and highly impactful career which spanned over 18 years.

Mahmudullah made his debut for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka in an ODI game at Colombo in July 2007. Often deployed in the lower middle order, he represented Bangladesh across all three formats.

The 39-year-old remains the only Bangladesh player to have scored three centuries in ODI World Cups, with two coming in the 2015 edition and one in 2023.

Mahmudullah’s international cricket career with bat

Mahmudullah represented Bangladesh in 430 international games which consisted of 50 tests, 239 ODIs and 141 T20Is. He was well known in the Bangladesh circuit for maintaining his composure and fulfilling the role of a finisher in white-ball cricket.

Mahmudullah scored 11,047 runs across formats which included nine centuries in international cricket.

His most remarkable batting performance came in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, where he stitched a 224-run partnership for the fifth wicket alongside Shakib Al Hasan to guide Bangladesh to a five-wicket victory against New Zealand.

Test – 2914 runs in 50 matches with a batting average of 33.49

ODI – 5689 runs in 239 matches with a batting average of 36.46

T20I – 2444 runs in 141 matches with a batting average of 23.50

Mahmudullah’s international cricket career with ball

A part-time off-spinner, he was often deployed in the middle overs in limited-overs cricket on helpful pitches. He took a total of 166 international wickets in his career, including a test fifer against West Indies in 2009.

Test – 43 wickets in 50 matches with a bowling average of 45.53

ODI – 82 wickets in 239 matches with a bowling average of 46.45

T20I – 41 wickets in 141 matches with a bowling average of 27.68

Mahmudullah captaincy record in international cricket

Mahmudullah captained Bangladesh in test and T20I cricket, leading the team in a total of 49 international matches. However, he was never appointed as an ODI captain.
