MS Dhoni did not feature in any game for CSK in IPL 2026.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a season to forget in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The five-time champions finished at eighth position on the points table with only six wins in 14 games. Their season was full of ups and downs, and they were struck by some major blows, with their main players getting injured and ruled out of the tournament.

This season marked their third consecutive season without making it to the playoffs. It happened for the first time in history that CSK did not make it to the playoffs for three consecutive years. The major talking point for them this year was the availability of their former captain and legend, MS Dhoni.

Dhoni was ruled out for two weeks at the start due to an injury in his calf muscles. But the injury prolonged, and even though the fans hoped to see a glimpse of their favourite player on the ground, they were left disappointed as Dhoni did not play a single game in the season. Many experts and fans now think that Dhoni has already played his last IPL match in the league.

MS Dhoni will be 45 years old at the start of IPL next year, and it will be become difficult for his body to maintain the same level of match fitness for a long period. Dhoni only participates in the IPL and does not play any domestic cricket. In this case, there are very low chances that we may see Dhon take the field again in the IPL.

However, the CEO of Chennai Super Kings, Kasi Viswanathan, gave a major update on Dhoni’s future with CSK in the IPL. He said:

We would always like to have him as a permanent fixture at CSK in whatever capacity, be it as a player, coach or mentor. Whatever it is, it depends on what he decides. Every decision depends on him.”

Kasi Viswanathan has clearly hinted that even if their legendary former captain does not play next season, he will always be welcomed into the management either as a coach or mentor. However, everything depends on Dhoni’s decision, and he will take the final call on his career.
