Marcus Stoinis got injured in the AUS vs ZIM match of T20 World Cup 2026.

The Australian Cricket Team have suffered a big blow amid the clash against the Zimbabwe Cricket Team in the T20 World Cup 2026. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis got injured as the match was underway at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Australia, who opted to field, struggled to take wickets against Zimbabwe and it was only Marcus Stoinis, who looked to pose some threat to the batters. He was the only bowler, who took a wicket till the 15th over of the Zimbabwe innings.

In a ploy to stop the run flow and take wickets at the death, Marcus Stoinis was brought back to the attack in the 16th over. However, things turned worse for the all-rounder as well as Australia as Stoinis ended up getting injured.

On the 5th ball of the 16th over, Stoinis bowled a full-toss, which Ryan Burl smashed back at him. The ball hit Stoinis’ thumb as he attempted the catch and he looked in immense pain.

Things didn’t look good as he walked off the field. At first glance, it seemed that the ball struck him on the webbing between the index finger and the thumb. It was his left hand and not his batting hand though, which means if the injury appears to be serious, he would be able to bat if needed.

With Stoinis walking off the field in the middle of his over, Cameron Green was asked to complete the over. He struck immediately as he removed Ryan Burl on the last of the over for 35 to bring Australia back in the game.

In the 2.5 overs that he bowled, Stoinis had a decent outing as he gave away just 17 runs and picked the wicket of Tadiwanashe Marumani. The team management would be hoping that Stoinis recovers quickly as he will be hold key for them in entire tournament.
